Publications & NewsScil Technology Files Patent on Coating Technology for ImplantsMARTINSRIED, Germany, May 05, 2004 - Scil Technology, a biopharmaceutical company focused on the development of dental tissue regeneration products, today announced it has extended its IP portfolio by a further patent application. The technology claimed in this application allows coating of medical implants like screws, nails, stents etc. with active pharmaceutical compounds, especially recombinant proteins. The process, which retains the native structure and activity of a protein when directly coated onto the surface of a metal implant is easily transferable to large scale aseptic manufacturing. The Company plans to use this technology in the first instance for the commercial, cost effective manufacturing of regenerative, growth factor activated dental implants. These will be developed for patients who have a risk for lower dental implant success rates because of their poor jaw bone quality caused by insufficient oral hygiene, heavy smoking, osteoporosis or insufficiently treated diabetes associated with high blood sugar level. In addition to the activated dental implants the technology could also be applied to orthopaedic implants for various applications. Dr Irina Staatz-Granzer, Managing Director of Scil Technology, commented: About Scil Technology GmbHScil Technology is a private biopharmaceutical development company focused on dental and orthopaedic tissue regeneration with a particular emphasis on bone and cartilage repair.
