Scil Technology is a privately financed biopharmaceutical development company focused on orthopaedic and dental tissue regeneration with a particular emphasis on bone and cartilage repair. The Company’s product candidates are based on proprietary technologies that combine specific recombinant human growth factors with biodegradable biomaterials formulated for local applications.
Scil Technology’s project pipeline currently spans from preclinical to clinical phase II development. Among the growth factors that are being integrated into product candidates, rhGDF-5 and the rhBMP variant are bone growth factors with a proven efficacy in animals and humans; whereas rhCD-RAP is a proprietary cartilage growth factor with established proof-of-concept for cartilage repair.
The Company has also developed a unique proprietary protein coating technology for the combination of biomaterials with these growth factors ensuring homogeneous loading of proteins onto the surface of biomaterials.
Scil Technology’s development pipeline includes several programmes covering different indications pertinent to dentistry and orthopaedics:
Products for dentistry using rhGDF-5
- MD05 – bone and periodontal dental tissue regeneration in dental implantology and surgical periodontitis
- MD06 – activated dental implant for use in dental implantation sites
- MD08 – regeneration of the periodontal attachment apparatus
Product for orthopaedics using rhBMP variant
- ST01 – bone regeneration in spinal fusion procedures and fractures
Products for orthopaedics using rhCD-RAP
- ST03 – repair of cartilage injuries and osteochondral (cartilage) defects
- ST04 – regeneration of cartilage caused by osteoarthritis
Scil Technology began operations at the end of 2003 when it was evolved from the Scil Group. The Company is located in the biotechnology cluster in Martinsried near Munich, Germany.
